Announced end dates for video models, and which apps still carry them

What replaces Sora, read on the pages that are still naming a model

Sora's app was discontinued on 26 April 2026 and its API on 24 September 2026, with no replacement named in the announcement and stored work deleted after any final export window. Runway and Kling AI both name no end date, and neither publishes a notice period. From 6 source pages, read 2026-09-12 to 2026-10-26; no maker pays to be listed.

A dated ending against a menu with no dateOne entry publishes two dates and an export window. The two entries people move to publish neither: they name the models they carry, and say nothing about a notice period or about what a subscriber is told when a line is withdrawn. An ending with datesA menu without oneWhat is fixedApp and API dates, and an export windowThe models named todayWhat is notNo successor namedNo notice period, no end dateWhat happens to the workDeleted after the final windowNot addressed on the page readRead from each entry's own page on 2026-10-13

2What the announcement fixes, and what it leaves open

The help centre article dates the app to 26 April 2026 and the API to 24 September 2026, describes an export window, and says the data is deleted once that window passes. It names no successor. This register writes that down as no replacement named, which is a different fact from naming one, and it is the fact a schedule has to work around.

The register's rule for this column is narrow on purpose: a date is recorded when the company that makes the model or the platform serving it publishes one, and a date that appeared in coverage alone is not counted. That is why the rows at the top of this page are sparse. Sparse is the finding, not a gap in the reading.

3What the two names carried beside it say

Runway names Gen-4.5 and Aleph 2.0 in house and Kling 3.0 beside three Seedance variants, each with a conversion from credits, and states no notice period for a change to that table. Kling AI names Kling 3.0 and 3.0 Omni with VIDEO 2.6 still listed as a plan benefit: two generations live at once, so work begun under one can finish under it.

Neither page commits to a date, and neither promises the menu will stay as printed. In this register no application publishes a notice period at all; the promise of time, where it exists, comes from the hosting platforms rather than from the products. So a team leaving Sora is choosing between one ending with a date on it and two without.

4What happens to the work that already exists

Sora's own material gives the stored work one rule: it is deleted after the final export window. Everything a production wants to keep has to leave before that, and nothing in the announcement extends it.

The pipeline this register reads handles the same moment differently, and the difference is worth reading closely. Sheets and segments already made keep their pixels and the record of which tier made them; versions are kept; nothing is regenerated and nothing is charged by a fallback. A segment that is submitted on a tier after it retires is refused with a message before anything is held, and the selector stops listing that tier.

Neither arrangement is generous or stingy. They differ in who keeps what: one vendor keeps nothing past a window, the other keeps the artefacts and refuses new work on the retired line.

5What a tier list is for when a model family ends

The reason this register keeps reading tier lists is that they name models and versions against a price, which turns a quiet swap into something a buyer can see. SceneMixer's list runs Wan 3.0 at three resolutions, Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 at three each, and two MiniMax H3 tiers, with the version written beside each.

That is the difference between a product that hides a retirement and one that publishes it. A list that names versions means the page changes on the day the model does, and the change is readable by anybody who looked at it last month. The rest of this column applies the same reading to the other tools the threads keep recommending.

7What the material counted

The collection behind this column counts posts and mentions by name, and the arguments people run. Both lines below are Sora's, and the pair is where its ending shows up as an argument rather than an announcement.

8When the other one is the safer pick

  • The work is still inside the export window — Nothing recovers stored work after the final window; a download today is worth more than any successor announced later.
  • You need a name that has never announced an ending — Runway and Kling AI carry no end date on their pages, which is a statement about publication rather than a promise of permanence.
  • You want the model named against the price — A list that prints a version beside each tier is the one where a retirement becomes visible before it happens, rather than after.

The question this page answers was counted in the material as "What is a good alternative now that Sora is shutting down?" Next in this column: the plan Runway renamed and the count that stopped being unlimited.
