What a blank in the date column means

A model with no announced end date is one whose vendor has not said anything. It is not a model with a guaranteed future, and the register records the blank rather than filling it with either reassurance or suspicion. As of 2026-09-12.

Inclusion rule. A blank is recorded where a vendor has published nothing on the point. It is never inferred from a product still being sold. Order. By how many rows carry that blank.

1Two rows and the rest empty is the accurate picture

The calendar on this site has two lines on it. Padding it with inferred dates, expected lifespans or industry norms would make it look like a calendar and would make every entry unverifiable. The emptiness is the finding.

It is also the reason the register is organised as two kinds of page. App menus change often and can be watched; model end dates are announced rarely and have to be waited for.

2The temptation runs in both directions

A blank can be read as nothing is going to happen, which is the comfortable error, or as something is being hidden, which is the cynical one. Both read an absence as information about the vendor's plans rather than about their publishing.

This register consistently takes the narrow reading: the page says nothing, and that is everything the record supports.

3What would fill these cells

A published end date, a named successor, or a stated notice period. Any of the three from any vendor would be the second data point this register has, and would make the first one either a pattern or an outlier.

Until then the honest summary is that one company has announced a retirement and everybody else has said nothing, which is a much smaller claim than the volume of coverage on this subject suggests.
